Biografia: Silvie Vartan nasce nel 1944 a Iskretz, una cittadina bulgara nei Balcani. Dopo l'invasione russa, con la famiglia si trasferisce a Sofia, e poi emigra a Parigi, nel 1952. I Vartan vivono in una stanza d'albergo per quattro anni, poi finalmente si sistemano in un appartamento. Sylvie ama la musica, influenzata dal fratello Eddie che trova lavoro alla RCA francese, e la fa debuttare come cantante duettando con Frankie Jordan nel 45 giri "Panne d'essence". Il successo č tale che la RCA propone alla giovanissima Sylvie un contratto discografico. Il suo disco di debutto, "Quand le film est triste", esce nel 1961. Durante uno spettacolo all'Olympia Sylvie conosce Johnny Hallyday , che poi sposerŕ. Il primo album di Sylvie esce nel 1962, e precede di poco il primo grande successo di classifica della piccola bulgara, "Tous mes copains". Hallyday e Vartan diventano una coppia durante un tour nella primavera del 1963. Nel 1964 Sylvie Vartan si esibisce all'Olympia nello stesso spettcolo dei Beatles e di Trini Lopez: č la cantante piů popolare di Francia, davanti a Françoise Hardy e a Sheila. Per la Vartan si aprono anche le porte del cinema, ma il suo agente, a sua insaputa, rifiuta le proposte dei registi. Le nozze Vartan–Hallyday avvengono il 12 aprile del 1965, approfittando di una licenza di Johnny (impegnato nel servizio militare). Nel 1966 dal matrimonio nasce David. Intanto i successi di vendita continuano regolarmente, in Francia e all'estero. Fra il 1968 e il 1969 Sylvie Vartan diventa popolarissima anche in Italia, grazie al successo di alcuni 45 giri ("Come un ragazzo", "Due minuti di felicitŕ", "Zum zum zum", "Buonasera buonasera", "Irresistibilmente") e a partecipazioni a programmi televisivi di grande audience. Nel giugno del 1969, Sylvie e Johnny hanno un incidente stradale: č lei ad avere la peggio, e a dover affrontare una lunga convalescenza, durante la quale prepara una svolta della sua carriera: da semplice cantante diventerŕ showgirl, ballerina, intrattenitrice – e attrice, nel film "Malpertuis". Le difficoltŕ matrimoniali, accentuate dalla perdita di un bambino nel 1974, si fanno sempre piů serie. I successi in teatro invece continuano, in Francia e altrove. Nel 1978 la Vartan e Hallyday si separano divorziano nel 1981. In primavera, l'incontro con il produttore americano Tony Scotti la aiuta a progettare lo sbarco in America, che avviene con successo (a Las Vegas e a Los Angeles): i ciritici la paragonano a Cher e a Liza Minnelli. Nel 1984 la Vartan sposa Tony Scotti, e rallenta gli impegni professionali, pur continuando ad incidere dischi. Tornerŕ sulle scene nel 1991, con il memorabile spettacolo "Je vous salue Paris". Nel 1994 la Vartan interpreta il film "Black angel" di Jean–Claude Brisseau, con Michel Piccoli. Nel 1995 Sylvie diventa nonna di Ilona, la bambina nata dal figlio David e da sua moglie Estelle. Nel 1996 pubblica l'album di maggior successo dei suoi ultimi anni, "Toutes les femmes ont un secret". Nel 1998 le viene concessa l'onorificenza della Legion d'Onore.

Negli anni Sessanta questi fermenti prendono forma nella contestazione giovanile ed anche questa volta trovano espressione diretta nella musica. Nasce nelle cantine il Ťbeatť inglese e da Liverpool quattro ragazzi, sotto il nome dei Beatles, insieme alle loro canzoni, lanciano un messaggio: ŤNon tagliatevi i capelliť. I giovani, prima per gioco, poi come momento di aggregazione collettiva, rispondono in massa all’appello dei quattro ragazzi di Liverpool e iniziano ad imitare gli atteggiamenti, l’abbigliamento, lo stile di vita. E nasce, agli albori, degli anni ’60, in un clima spensierato e affatto violento, il primo momento della contestazione giovanile. Al mito dei Beatles si lega, tuttavia, un altro nascente fenomeno di massa: il fanatismo. Migliaia di ragazze urlano e piangono alla loro vista, in preda ad una sorta di isteria collettiva durante i concerti. Con i Betles si accentua di piů che con i divi del rock’n’roll il Ťdivismoť, il protagonismo di scena, la figura del fan, mentre i loro produttori scoprono il grande mercato dei business discografico. Milioni di giovani si radunano per assistere ai grandi concerti di Monterey, di Woodstock e dell’isola di Wight. La protesta assume connotazioni esistenziali, la controcultura freack diffonde l’uso delle droghe. Il movimento culturale dei Ťfigli dei fioriť cede il passo a una tragica catena di morti. Anche fra le rockstar si contano le prime vittime: la celebre cantante Janis Joplin, il famoso chitarrista negro Jimi Hendrix, il leader del complesso inglese ŤDoorsť, Jim Morrison.

La programmazione di videoclip č un’operazione essenzialmente commerciale: divi come Madonna, Michael Jackson, o i Duran Duran hanno raddoppiato le vendite delle loro incisioni dopo l’uscita dei video. Se la televisione ha sempre rivestito un ruolo importante nella promozione dei divi della musica leggera fin dagli anni Sessanta, con la videomusic č notevolmente aumentata la potenzialitŕ dell’immagine di orientare il gusto del pubblico. Con la programmazione del videoclip, dove il modo di vestirsi, di muoversi e di truccarsi dell’interprete acquista un’importanza decisiva, l’attenzione del pubblico si sposta dalla musica al personaggio. L’immagine di una rockstar viene attentamente costruita da un equipe di esperti cosě come si progetta la confezione di un qualsiasi prodotto industriale da lanciare sul mercato. A questo proposito, come giŕ osservato, l’esempio piů eclatante č quello di Madonna, per la quale č stato inventato il personaggio inprevedibile e trasgressivo che č diventato un modello per molte adolescenti. Madonna, grazie al video, si propone ogni volta con un nuovo look ispirato al tema dell’album in uscita. Al contrario di quanto accade nei film, nel videoclip la musica non funge da colonna sonora ma precede l’immagine che commenta o interpreta il pezzo musicale. Il videoclip assomiglia piů a un collage che a una trama narrativa: le immagini sono spesso sequenze di velocissime (frames), frammentate fino ad essere difficilmente riconoscibili e talvolta prive di una successione logica. Si passa da una situazione all’altra utilizzando flash back, sovrapposizioni di immagini, accelerazioni e rallentamenti. Č la musica a creare un rapporto tra situazioni tra loro slegate e a dare loro un significato secondo un procedimento tipico della pubblicitŕ. Nel video non solo l’immagine, ma anche la musica č creata artificialmente: l’esecuzione č realizzata da montaggi fatti in studio, con amplificazioni ed effetti elettronici. Se il protagonista č ripreso mentre canta, č di regola il lip–sync, la sincronizzazione del movimento delle labbra con il canto. So I wandered by some baby-wearing links

It's Myr's fault. She had to go and link to a tongue-in-cheek post about how useful advanced baby-wearing techniques will be to mothers wishing to survive the zombie apocalypse. ^_^

Anyway. Not the first time I wandered by baby-wearing links. I toyed with the idea of trying something better than the sling we got at Target, for trips to the playground with both the boys. Never quite worked out; most of the baby-wearing items I found, while much better built and more useful than said sling, also cost around 75$, on the low end of the scale. Might've worked if I had the sewing skills to make my own... Ah well.

I just like windowshopping. Many of the mei tais are pretty, and the moms and babies look so happy snuggled together.

But one thing really gets me. Most of these sites tout that their products will hold up to 75 lbs., and depending on design are meant to hold kids up to age four or even five.

Ok, stipulating that there's situations when a travel-system stroller is too awkward to use but your kid will get too tired/get into mischief if walking on his or her own. But....

Just how scrawny ARE these hypothetical preschoolers?!

Mark is built like a small moose! I would have thrown in the baby-wearing towel ages ago, even if I could have afforded those carriers, and even if I didn't have Jack! I'd have herniated discs and just plain soft-tissue hernias on a daily basis if I were to try! And he's only two and a half.

There's crunchy granola mothering, and then there's just plain asking for a trip to the chiropractor or the ER.

On that note, Jack has grown far too big for me to continue lugging him to and from the playground in his car seat, and then lugging him about periodically as Mark scampers around the equipment. The double stroller's entirely too much trouble to break out for these little trips, and we left the smaller stroller I bought for Mark back in Missouri.

So I bought a near-duplicate at WalMart today. I still dislike shopping there, but they're good at providing sturdy stuff for small kids at a decent value. For twenty-five bucks, I got a collapsible stroller with a sunshade and cargo basket, that folds up almost as small as an umbrella stroller. The umbrellas cost about twenty bucks everywhere, but tend to not have sunshades. Jack needs a sunshade. He's as pale as Mark and I.

He's still not even close to sitting up, mind you, but the back reclines partially, and he's perilously close to giving me herniated discs himself if I use the car seat that way much longer.

I assembled it a little while ago, in between laundry and cuddling my poor teething boy. Had to break out the pliers to get one of the cotterpins to cooperate, but it's working now. ^___^ Jack will be going to church with me and Mark in style tomorrow.

Loliable prescription Glasses on the cheap! (US)

Loliable Glasses on the cheap!

Prescription glasses aren't cheap and in the past there was a post or two about dealing with lolita and glasses. No more being stuck with boring glasses or having them clash or taking them off for pictures!

When I bought my original glasses, they ran about $200 for the cheapest set of frames and lenses, on top of that, being the impulsive person that I am, I bought leopard print frames with purple tint lenses (giirr). Cool for rolling out of bed and going to class (At the time. Boy was I impulsive), but not exactly something to wear to a job interview, much less match with an outfit. Then I found Zenni and glasses went from necessity to accessory. For about $20 shipped, I had a complete prescription glasses set in a stylish frame that I could match with red Bodyline girly note rip off and all the other red and black things I own. It was a snap to order, but I had to get my prescription and PD first.


Much better! For that price, I could buy new glasses in every color, for every outfit. The only caveats are you have to get your prescription from your doctor (required by law to be released to you when asked) and your PD, or pupillary distance. Sometimes the optometrist will measure it for free, but it's not required on a prescription. You can also measure at home, but it takes some practice. You also don't get to try them on, but if you already have an idea of what to look for from a previous pair, it's not too bad.

Looking for trouble in all the right places.

I would say last night was good but i can't remember ANYTHING. all i remember was stumbling around recting poetry in the cold..that doesnt even sound like me. i woke up at 6 tonight very very overtired and gross. got up and made myself soup and a matzo. i feel like shit and rob is still sleeping. he's out cold and i'm lonely. i watched bridget jones diary and it made me cry because i'm lame like that. hugh grant is fucking gorgeous. i'm really tired of feeling empty and bored. things could be so much better and they will be. i'm leaving in six days..i'm nowhere close to ready. i need my hair done, new clothes, and tips. i want to stop giving up on everything around me. word of the day? blah. some saturday night.

I work as a crime scene photographer for the Los Angeles Police Department. There are times when the scene involves children. They are mostly brought to a studio in Police Headquarters where controlled lighting produces the best results of documenting their injuries.

They are quite often upset by the entire process.

 One thing that makes them happy is the collection of stuffed animals we have to give away.

I cannot tell you how it feels to watch a child's face evolve from fear or dread to joy as they pick through the various stuffed toys we are always trying to keep an ample supply of. This is where you come in. We need the kind of stuffed animals you may have gotten from a trip abroad or just the 99ct store. The children pick out everything from popular TV characters to furry squid.

 As long as they are not too much bigger than a basketball then anything proper goes. This really helps us keep going in our work, your age is of no difference, you can start a club to bring together those who wish to donate, and let them say what they will about what or "who" they give away. Let them know that their old friend will find new life making a child happy.

-Try to plan a weekend trip to: Boston, somewhere out on Long Island (Fire Island, etc)
